　　日本がケータイの次に景気浮揚で起死回生するとしたら、ロボットである。ケータイで起死回生できなかった(というか、これがなかったら日本は本当に滅んでいただろう)分をロボットで取り戻せるはずである。

　「経済が発展するのは技術革新でしかない (言い換えると、日本が戦後発展してきたのは常に技術革新が起こってきたからだ)」と、学生時代に鬼頭教授は言っていたが私はずっとそれを信じている。

　　ソニーのロボットがパラパラを踊ったり、ホンダのアシモに人間が入ってるしか思えないような光景は記憶に新しい。

　　ソニーは AIBO をすでに世に送りだしているし、このAIBOに「無線LAN」 (専門的には 802.11b) が載ることは明白である。つまり今自分たちが持っているケータイが勝手に動きまわりだす世界を考えてみるとわかりやすい。

　　ここで観察すると、

ケータイ←→ケータイ

は、人と人とのモバイルコミュニケーションであった。

　　次にくるのは、

ケータイ←→マシン

であり、これは c-mode に代表されるように、ケータイでコカ・コーラが買えるというもの。すなわち人とマシンのコミュニケーションである。

　　今後 3～5 年に起こり得ることだと思う。

　　最後には

マシン←→マシン

となり、ロボット同士が会話しだす。

　　これはいわばドコモ立川会長が言うビジョンそのまんまだが、おそらくこの方向は間違いがなく、今日の日経にも「無線 LAN、立ち上がる」という記事が書かれるほどになっている (日経に書かれたときはすでに時遅しと言えるが、日経の記者もなかなか勉強しているようで、この記事はタイムリーである)。
