フロリダ旅行で学んだこと。

　　アメリカでバカンスといえばフロリダだろう。2007年、子どもの中冬休み（？）の機会にオーランドのディズニーワールド＆ケネディ宇宙センター、エバーグレイズ国立公園、キーウェストと行ってみて、ケネディ宇宙センターはともかく、ディズニーワールドの人工物 vs 世界遺産の自然、キーウェストの綺麗なビーチといった感じだった。

　　で、まずはディズニーワールドについて考えてみる。

　　今までフロリダといえば何回かマイアミに来て滞在も1、2日くらいだったので気がつかなかったのだけれど、ディズニーワールドにいるのはほとんど白人だけだった。アジア系の多い西海岸とは大違いだ。フロリダはアメリカの南の方なので黒人の比率が高いはずなのに、ディズニーワールドの中にはまったくといっていなかった。アジア系もほとんどおらず、日本人も数えるほどだったがこれは単に日本から遠いからだろう。

　　ディズニーワールド自体は滞在型リゾートを志向しているのでとにかく金がかかるということもあるかもしれないが、ディズニーの文化をどれだけ受け入れられるかということの影響も大きいのではないかと思う。我々日本人は若い人なら小さいころからディズニーに親しんでいるので違和感なく受け入れているのだろう。

　　今回の旅の予定はほとんど妻が立てた。私は NY も薦めたのだが彼女はオーランド行き、すなわちディズニーワールドをメインに選んだ。私からキーウェストへ行きたいというリクエスト以外は、行きたいところは全部彼女に任せた。私もディズニーワールドは単に行ってみたかったしそれまであまり深く考えてはいなかったのだが、ディズニーが実現したこの大自然に囲まれて作られた夢が叶う場所は、その背景には白人の文化と環境破壊というものがある。特にフロリダの広大な森林を犠牲に自然は大破壊だ。これは21世紀においてはもはや時代遅れになりつつあるのではないか。

　　同じフロリダ内でもディズニーワールドと対照的なのがエバーグレイズ国立公園だ。まぁここも人間が楽しめるように道路や公園を作って環境破壊してると指摘されれば身も蓋もない話だけれども、園内にあるウェストレイクは印象的だった。ここを最初に観たときは何の変哲もないただの湖かと思ったが（実際、ただの土色の湖だった）、せっかく来たんだしと思ってトレイルを散策してみたら、何よりもここが穴場だった。それが左と真ん中にある写真の、トレイルの最終地点にある河にかけられた橋で、南米系と思われる釣を楽しむ家族連れがいた（写真）。魚が釣れた！と親子で楽しんでいる姿は正直うらやましかった。ディズニーワールドではパーク内を一日中歩いてホテルに着く前から親子共々くたくたになっていたが、ここでは金もかからないしのんびりと過ごせる。私にはこの公園内で釣を楽しむなんて考えもなかった。自然を理解するには自然と触れ合うのが一番かもしれない。

　「それはバカンスをどう過ごすか、単に価値観の違い。そんなこといってたら何も楽しめない、ディズニーが好き。」という声もあると思う。それはそれでいいと思う。いや、私もディズニーは決して嫌いなのではなく、むしろ好きな方だ。だからディズニーワールドに行ったのだ。たぶんこれからもディズニーランドには行くと思う。しかし我々大人の（洗脳された）価値観はもはや時代遅れになっている気がする。

　　エバーグレイズ国立公園では、妻と「今は冬だから雨が降らないでこの湿地帯も乾いているのかな」なんて話していたのだが、あとで公園でもらったガイドを見たら湿地帯はオリジナルより現在は50％減っていると書かれていた。これは地球温暖化というよりはマイアミの都市開発によるものが大きいと思われる（私が 2000年にマイアミに来たときよりも今はさらに開発が進んでいる）が、これからの時代は地球温暖化や環境破壊を相当意識しないといけないだろう。

　　価値観の違いで片付けるのではなくて、価値観の転換が必要なのではないだろうか。
