企業を評価する上で最も大事なこと

株式投資において（またはそうでなくても）、企業を評価する上で一番重要な点は何であろうか。

教科書通りだと、

  • 収益性（経常利益率）
  • 安定性（流動比率、固定比率）
  • 成長性（売上高伸び率など）

などの 3 つの観点から、財務諸表や損益計算書から計算できるような 「指標」 を算出して、その数字がよければ良い、ということになる。確かに、これらは大変重要であり、企業を評価する上では前提条件のように思う。私は、以前から、一番大切なのは、

  • 経営者のビジョン
  • 研究開発投資

だと考えている。その観点から投資すべき銘柄を選ぶ。

もし、この２つに加えるなら

  • マーケティング力

というものが入るかもしれないが、経営者のビジョンなどは主観的なものであり、なかなか数字で出したりしての客観評価が難しい。が、やはり、経営者のビジョンが明確な企業は、必ず成長が約束されている。
この 3 点を兼ね備えた企業がマイクロソフトであった。

マイクロソフトはソフトウェアを作っているから、技術力とか、そういうもので成長したのだと勘違いしている人も多いかもしれないが、ウィンドウズを使っていれば誰でも経験のあるように、ウィンドウズ はよく死ぬ ─── このことが端的に示すように、マイクロソフトのソフトウェアの品質は決して良くない。技術力もそんなに高いとは思えない。GUI の「ウィンドウ」だってオリジナルはMacだった。技術、革新性で言ったらアップルの方が上だった。しかし、マイクロソフトはマーケティングがうまかった。研究開発投資もした。そしてビルゲイツの「世界のすべてのコンピュータにウィンドウズを」というビジョンが加わり、ソフトウェアの巨大帝国を作った。

経営者のビジョンに関して言えば、たとえばソフトバンクの孫社長のビジョンは非常に明確で、「IT の各分野でトップになる」 である。ビルゲイツのビジョンは、「世界のすべてのコンピュータにウィンドウズを」 だった。ドコモの社長は 「人、ペット、宅配便、すべてのものに携帯電話を」 である。人間というのは、目標が定まると、それに向かって走るものである。ビジョンが明確で、それに向かって走っている人は尊敬する。だから自分もそうなりたい。

一方でそれと共に企業の成長をうらなう上では、研究開発投資…すなわち、革新的な新製品開発が欠かせな
い。

だから、私がポートフォリオを組む場合は、まずこれらの 2 つの点を最優先するから、銘柄を選ぶのは比較的簡単である。この２点がしっかりしている企業は財務諸表も概ねいいことになっている。財務諸表が良いから経営者のビジョンと研究開発力が良いのではなくて、財務諸表は後からついてくるものだ。

昨今の IT 関連株の異様な上がり方を鑑みると、従来の収益性、安定性、成長性・・・これらの指標だけでは到底説明できない状況になっている。

やはり投資家は、経営者のビジョンと研究開発力という点を評価しているのだ。
